Wood Family Reunion 1989

TIPPINS-WOOD FAMILY. Roger Wood married Nancy Pinken Tippins in Savannah in the mid-1800's and moved to Tattnall county where many of their descendants still call home. This document was obtained from Jean Crosby Shuman, who in turn got it from her Aunt Gussie Womble (picture, seated far left). Gussie was the daughter of Georgie Eason Wood and granddaughter of Roger and Nancy. According to David Tippins, mail service began in Manassas, Georgia (originally called "Danton") in 1904 and George was the first mail carrier. According to Nancy Crosby the original document was done by a professional Genealogist hired by Eldred Lanier Tippins, Sr. and brought up to date (as of the early 1980's?) by Eldred's son David Tippins of Claxton, Georgia. The picture on the left was taken around 1989: Seated (L-R) is Gussie Wood Womble, Ruth Wood Tootle, Mary Wood Branch, and Nell Wood. Standing (L-R) is Carolyn Wood Solana and Mary Alice Branch Walker.

The report is broken into six (6) sections: Introduction, and a section pertaining to each of Roger and Nancy Wood's descendants. Click on the buttons below to download the PDF document for each family branch. Then click on the "Back" button of your server to return to this page.

BREWTON-PARKER-WOOD FAMILY. Roger and Nancy Wood's son, Wiliam Henry ("Willie") Wood, married Alice Emily Brewton Parker on July 1, 1888. Alice Parker's ancestry traces back to the Brutons (Brewtons) and Fontaines. The following document was obtained from William Henry's daughter Nellie Wood (above picture, far right, seated) through Mary Alice Walker (standing, right) daughter of Nell's sister Clara Wood Branch (seated next to Nell).

We're not sure if Aunt Nell did the work or hired someone to do it, but we do know that both Nell and Gussie (first cousins) were dedicated to keeping the family story alive.
