Roger Wood came to Georgia from Lancaster, England in the 1850's. He was a widower with one child from the late Sarah Garstay Wood who he married in 1841. They had one daughter who Roger left behind when he came to America. It is said he always planned to return for her, but never could. Recent searches in England by family members failed to turn up any clues as to any details about this orphaned offspring, or what happened to her.
Roger Wood met Nancy Picken Tippens in Savannah upon his arrival there in the 1850's. They married and moved to Tattnall County, home of the Tippins clan. Roger and Nancy had four sons and one daughter: John Michael, William Henry, George Eason, Charlie, and Carolyn. This album is mostly an exhibit of George's and William Henry's branch since we don't yet have pictures and stories from the others. Please contact us if you have stories and/or pics you want to see on this site.
